When Is the Best Time to Schedule Newborn Photos?
Welcoming a new baby is one of the most emotional and exciting seasons of life—and it’s completely normal to feel unsure about when to schedule newborn photos. One of the most common questions I hear from new parents is whether there’s a “perfect” time.
As a Southern Utah newborn photographer, my goal is to make this experience gentle, flexible, and stress-free.
Newborn photos are often taken within the first 7–14 days after birth. During this time, babies tend to sleep more deeply and curl naturally, which allows for soft, peaceful images. I love to let babies pose themselves in baskets or other like props. I never put babies into positions that are unsafe or look uncomfortable to the baby.
If the idea of rushing into photos feels overwhelming, lifestyle newborn sessions are a beautiful alternative. These sessions focus on connection and can be done: A few weeks after birth and When baby is more alert. Disclaimer: I only do lifestyle sessions if there is a lot of natural light in one of your rooms.
The best time for newborn photos is when you feel ready. I work with families to create sessions that honor your pace and your baby’s needs.
