Is a mini shoot the way to go for your family?

Capturing family moments is important (course Im going to say that, it's my career to make sure you get these moments ;) ), but with our busy lives, it can be challenging to carve out time for a full photoshoot. Enter the mini photoshoot—a short. and sweet session. But is it the right choice for you? Let’s explore how to determine if a mini photoshoot fits your family’s needs!

1. Consider Your Time Constraints

My mini shoots are 15-25 minutes long, making them ideal for families with packed schedules. If your weekends are filled with sports, events, or other commitments, a mini session can provide a quick yet effective way to capture precious moments without the stress of a longer commitment.

Questions to Ask:

  • Do you have a busy schedule that limits your availability?
  • Are you looking for a quick way to update family photos without a lengthy session?

2. Evaluate Your Goals for the Photoshoot

Think about what you want from the session. Mini photoshoots are great for seasonal updates, holiday cards, or simply capturing your family at this moment in time with everyone looking at the camera at the same time.  However, if you're aiming for a comprehensive family album, like more candids or have specific theme or location far away from Cedar City in mind, a longer session might be more suitable.

Questions to Ask:

  • Are you looking for just a few great shots, or do you want a variety of poses and setups?
  • Do you have specific themes or locations in mind that require more time?

3. Assess Your Kids’ attention span

If you have young children, their patience and energy levels can significantly influence the success of a photoshoot. Mini sessions can be perfect for little ones who may struggle with longer commitments. The shorter duration keeps their attention and often results in more genuine smiles and expressions.

Questions to Ask:

  • How do your kids typically behave during longer activities?
  • Would they benefit from a quick session that allows for breaks?

4. Budget Considerations

Mini photoshoots often come at a lower price point than full sessions. If you’re looking to capture family photos without breaking the bank, a mini session can be a fantastic option. Just be sure to check what’s included in the package—sometimes, extra edits or prints can add up.

(on Black Friday I offer a limited amount of discounted mini session vouchers to use in the following year)

Questions to Ask:

  • What is your budget for family photos?
  • Are you comfortable with the price and what’s included in the mini session?

5. Location and Setting

Mini photoshoots often take place in specific, pre-chosen locations to maximize time. If you’re looking for a unique backdrop or a particular setting, ensure that your photographer offers the flexibility you need. Conversely, if you’re happy with a standard location, a mini shoot could be a breeze.

Questions to Ask:

  • Is the proposed location convenient for your family?
  • Do you love the idea of a particular venue, or are you open to suggestions?

6. Styling and Preparation

With limited time for a mini shoot, preparation is key. Choose outfits in advance and consider coordinating looks to make the most of your session. If you enjoy planning and want to present your family in the best light, this can be a fun part of the experience.

Questions to Ask:

  • Are you comfortable planning outfits for a quick session?
  • Do you enjoy the process of preparing for a photoshoot?

If you think a mini soot s the right fit for you, I shoot minis locally in Cedar City whenever I have availability. Farther locations I offer minis on specific dates that are announced on my social media sites. If you have a certain sport in mind, reach out to me and I can plan minis around you and the location you would like.
